Derrick Smith flyer connects Tyson to Romney

State Rep. Derrick Smith (D-Chicago) is up for re-election today, even though he was ousted from the Illinois State House. Smith was voted out by House members in August, but the vote took place after he had already won the Democratic primary in March. As a result, he is still on the ballot as a Democrat. His opponent, Lance Tyson, was picked to run against him by the Democratic establishment, but Tyson is listed as an independent candidate. (Ben Joravsky of the Chicago Reader has provided useful background information on this race.)

Today, the below flyer was found outside a home in Bucktown. The flyer, which said it was “Paid for by Friends of Derrick Smith,” seeks to connect Tyson and Mitt Romney in the minds of voters. “What Does (sic) Lance Tyson & Mitt Romney Have in Common?” it reads. “They are not Democratic candidate’s (sic) on the Nov. 06, 2012 election ballot. Please don’t be fooled!”
